Kothari sons is a family run saree showroom in Gwalior with the fourth generation now working in the business. The recently renovated showroom also has the distinction of being the largest saree store in Madhya Pradesh in terms of sq ft area. The new look showroom now has a vast collection of designer sarees, lehangas, ready to wear salwar suits and kurtis, scarves and stoles, shawls and fabrics.
We are the only saree showroom in Gwalior with their own in-house embroidery workshop employing 200 workers who make exclusive sarees, stoles & western attire for the showroom as well as for our export division. Our embroidery has also been showcased in the catwalks of Milan as we work for top stylists in Italy and France. Our work has been appreciated at the wedding of Prince Albert of Monaco with Charlene Wittstock.
We have produced exclusive embroidery for Indian Designers and Designer stores like Tarun Tahiliani, Indian Textiles, Villa Appearances, Burlington’s of Bombay, Rinaldi, Taj Treasures, Sheraton Treasures etc.
The history of our embroidering dates back 90 years when we started as the embroiderers and clothiers of the Royal Family of Scindia. Kothari Sons now designs exquisite sarees for the present Maharani, HH Priyadarshini Scindia who, in a recent article in the London Vogue, included the showroom in her list of favourite place to shop!
Her Mother-in-law, Rajmata Madhvi Raje Scindia, wife of the charismatic Madhav rao Scindia, inaugurated the Kothari Sons Exhibitions at the Usha Kiran Palace Hotel in 1999. On the recommendation of the Royal family of Gwalior, our list of illustrious clients include Renuka Chaudhury, Sushma Swaraj, Hema Malini, Kiran More, the Princesses from the Royal Family of Malaysia etc.
An interesting fact is that the shop has its origins from the looms of Chanderi weaving Pagris, Dupattas & Patal (Nine yard sarees) for the Scindia Family and their Sardars. To this day, we stock Chanderi Sarees and Fabrics from our own looms. Kothari Sons was given the best showroom award in the centenary year of the Gwalior Trade Fair by Shri Atal Behari Vajpayee for its unique collection and display, We created the facade of Westminster Abbey, London
